Woodland restoration group in BD5
We run groups in the woods for the community which involve managing the woodland – litter picking, maintaining paths and bins, planting native plants to increase biodiversity, playing games, sitting under the canopy and talking mental health, building dead hedges, adding bird boxes, trying out woodland crafts, and relaxing in hammocks, as well as lots of just enjoying the woods.
The benefits come to our mental health, sense of wellbeing, sense of achievement and sense of community, among other things.
As we try out new (or often very old) crafts and learn new skills, we share them with the group, these have included foraging, working on the shave horse, and weaving. And there’s plenty more to learn.
We join with local community groups who have held some community events in the woods and local outdoor space – enjoying the outdoors and introducing the space to members of the community who were not aware of it previously.
