Occupational Therapy is difficult to explain quickly!
It can cover a lot of different areas of support; working with you to help you to:

Recover from mental or physical illness
Live alongside long term illness
Our Occupational therapist has worked in a variety of Mental health settings for over 24 years working with people to help them to recover and live life in a way that works best for them.
Who could this be helpful for?
Occupational therapy works with people with or without a diagnoses.
For those who have a diagnosis, Here’s some that our therapist has worked with:
Anxiety, Depression, Eating disorders, Autism, ADHD, Tourettes, Personality disorders, Psychosis, Bipolar affective disorder, PTSD & Trauma, Schizophrenia, Addictions, Chronic Fatigue, Fibromyalgia and stress response conditions.
What do you do in the sessions?
Occupational Therapy gives time to look at your big picture – looking at all the things that could be affecting your wellbeing (that you’re happy to talk about). We talk through these broad areas:
- What you want to do
- What you need to do
- Your Ability to do these things
- Your Environment and how this affects your ability to do things
Goals are set together throughout to work on the areas identified and therapy works with these things.
Do you use any techniques I might have heard of?
CBT techniques, motivational interviewing and solution focused techniques are used within therapy among others things.
We often talk through stress and coping, sleep issues, organisation, habits and routine, relationships and whatever needs talking about.
We have a few resources that we share that can be helpful for thinking things through in between sessions.
Our Occupational therapist is registered with her professional body and follows the rules of the profession to keep everyone safe.

Here are some Frequently asked questions to give a bit more information about what to expect:
How much does it cost?
Sessions cost around £65 for one hour (which includes payment for any room hire costs and all the preparation and communication time surrounding this).
Why do I have to pay?
Our therapy is not currently funded by the NHS, so we need to charge in order to pay our therapist and other organisation and business costs.
If we have funding to potentially subsidise (reduce) this cost, our therapist will discuss this with those who are eligible.
We are a community Interest company, which means that our income is not for profit and goes back into the business after paying for what’s needed.
Where are the sessions?
Sessions are ideally face to face within the Bradford West Yorkshire area, however virtual options are also available.
How many sessions do I get?
Number of sessions are negotiable, we’ll review regularly to ensure that they remain useful and don’t continue past your need.
What happens with my information?
